๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฒ Myanmar, Devastating Earthquake on March 28, 2025

On March 28, 2025 at ~12:50 MMT, a catastrophic magnitude 7.7‑7.9 earthquake struck near Mandalay in Sagaing Region, Myanmar, the strongest since 1912. The quake lasted nearly 80 seconds, caused widespread collapse of mosques, monasteries, offices, and left over 5,400 dead, 11,400 injured, and 538 missing across Myanmar. In Thailand, at least 103 fatalities occurred, including a construction site collapse in Bangkok.

Major damage occurred in Mandalay, Sagaing, and Aungban,where a hotel in Aungban collapsed killing at least 10 people, and around 100 homes were destroyed in nearby villages.

Estimated economic damage: USD $1.6‑11 billion; shifting death toll numbers reflect reporting challenges amid the civil war.

Over 281,000 displaced, with more than 100 temporary shelters still active in early July.

Response & Aid

Operation Brahma: India deployed its army and medical teams starting March 28, delivering trauma care and supplies.

ASEAN countries contributed: Indonesia’s INASAR team rescued survivors and recovered bodies while sending 136 tons of relief.

Malaysia pledged RM 10 million and sent its SMART rescue unit.

China, South Korea, EU, UK and the UN responded with funds and equipment.

NGOs such as Convoy of Hope provided essential kits within weeks, distributing aid in Mandalay, Naypyidaw, and other communities.{{citeturn0search10}}

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฉ Indonesia — Mount Lewotobi Laki‑laki Eruption & Flooding

On 7 July 2025, Mount Lewotobi Laki‑laki erupted twice: first at ~11:00 LT with ash clouds up to 18 km, and again ~19:30 with ash up to 13 km. At least 24 international and 4 domestic flights were canceled due to ash plumes.

Concurrently, floods and landslides hit Bogor and East Jakarta (as of 6 July), affecting ~1,362 residents: 3 deaths, 1 missing, 3 injured, and 17 homes damaged/displaced.

๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ Philippines & ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ผ Taiwan ,Typhoon Wipha (Crising) & Monsoon Floods

From mid‑July 2025:

A low‑pressure system turned into Tropical Storm Wipha (locally named Crising) on 16 July, which intensified to a severe tropical storm by 19 July. It intensified the southwest monsoon (habagat), causing widespread flooding over 215,000 people. In Cebu City and Pangasinan, states of calamity were declared due to flooding and landslides.

In Taiwan, heavy rains triggered by Wipha and the monsoon led to flooding, landslides, and power outages across Tainan, Chiayi, Penghu, Kaohsiung. At least two fatalities in Tainan, 726 injured, and damage losses estimated at NT$3.26 billion (~US$111 million).

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฉ Other Earthquake Activity in Indonesia January–February 2025

Indonesia experienced multiple moderate earthquakes (5.0‑5.7 M) during early 2025:

Sulawesi (Kolaka/Wawota) saw a 5.0 M quake on 16 January felt widely by ~290,000 people.

Similar events in Sulawesi on 24 January & 7 March, and a 5.7 M quake in Irian Jaya on 18 February. These caused no major casualties but were widely felt and logged on regional seismic networks.


Between 7–13 July 2025, heavy rainfall triggered flooding across Bekasi Regency, affecting approximately 5,300 households (~21,000 individuals). Authorities relocated around 2,400 families (9,000 people) to 15 evacuation centers in 37 villages. The floods damaged houses and roads. By mid-July, most had returned home. Local authorities declared an Emergency Alert Status for floods, landslides, and extreme weather lasting through August 2025. 

 Indonesia, Cirebon Landslide in West Java

On 30 May 2025, a landslide in Cipanas Village, Cirebon Regency buried heavy machinery and vehicles, killing 19 people, injuring 8 and leaving 6 missing. Rescue efforts involved local authorities, Basarnas teams, volunteers, and community members. 

 Philippines, Widespread Flooding in Maguindanao (BARMM)

From late May into early June 2025, persistent monsoon rains led to major flooding in Maguindanao del Sur, spilling over into Maguindanao del Norte, Basilan, and Sulu in the Bangsamoro region. Over 370,000 people (about 74,000 families) were displaced, prompting the declaration of a province-wide state of calamity. 

Thailand, Flooding in Northern Provinces (Chiang Rai, Nan)

On 27 June 2025, prolonged rains triggered severe flooding across Chiang Rai and Nan provinces, impacting 4,725 households in 47 villages. The response involved military, NGOs, volunteers, and by 28 June, Thailand’s Prime Minister Paethongtarn Shinawatra visited affected areas, delivering 1,000 relief packages. 

Philippines , Kanlaon Volcano Eruptions

The Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island entered an active phase with multiple eruptions: April 8, 2025 and May 13, 2025, following earlier eruptions in June and December 2024. As many as 57,563 people were affected; over 8,600 families (~28,000 individuals) were displaced during April 2025’s major event. Agricultural damage is estimated at several million USD. Alert levels remained elevated. 

๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ Philippines / ๐Ÿ‡ป๐Ÿ‡ณ Vietnam Tropical Storm Danas & Ha Long Bay Boat Disaster

In early July 2025, Typhoon Danas, interacting with the southwest monsoon, flooded parts of the Philippines, affecting over 13,000 people across 14 barangays, disrupting work and school in 219 cities/municipalities, and claiming at least one child’s life in Las Piรฑas. In Vietnam, particularly Ha Long Bay, storm-enhanced winds capsized a tourist boat, killing 34 people and leaving 9 missing.
