A Different Kind of December: Christmas on the Beach

Image
Christmas on the Shore: A Holiday Wrapped in Sunlight There’s something quietly rebellious about spending Christmas on the beach. While the rest of the world pulls on wool sweaters, warms their hands around mugs of spiced cider, and braces for winter’s bite, you’re standing barefoot in warm sand, with the sun painting everything in gold. The ocean murmurs in the background like an easygoing caroler who only knows one verse but hums it proudly. Christmas ornaments sparkle in palm trees instead of pines. And the only frost you’ll see is the faint mist on the rim of a cold drink pulled from an ice chest. For many people, Christmas is tied tightly to a sense of tradition. Snow. Fireplaces. Cozy nights. A sense of retreat from the cold. I grew up with that version, too. But the first time I celebrated Christmas on the beach, everything I thought I knew about the holiday rearranged itself. It didn’t ruin my childhood nostalgia. It didn’t replace it. Instead, it carved out a warm, sun...

There Is No Remedy For Love But To Love More

Image
Behind every broken heart is someone who trusted the wrong person, gave his/her heart to the wrong person, loved and was never loved in return, sacrificed a lot for a lover who was not worth it, hoped for someone who did not fulfil the hope, committed to the wrong relationship with someone who was not worth the commitment, etc. Just remember this: Loving the wrong person is not the end of life. Loving the wrong person does not mean you will never be able to love again, loving the wrong person does not mean you are a loser. Just like the stages of development of a butterfly, there are the ugly stages of larva and pupae but the adult is a beautiful butterfly that every person admires. Experiencing an ugly heart break does not mean you shall never live to experience a beautiful love once more.  Heart break conditions someone how to live to experience true love and appreciate it when it comes along in the future.  Someone who knows thirst really knows the value of wa...

"Treasure your family love, love for your spouse, love for your friends. Treat everyone well and stay friendly with your neighbors." (Attributed to Steve Jobs, founder of Apple). Most people would agree that Steve Jobs is probably the greatest entrepreneur who ever lived, and the greatest tech innovator of our times. The company he founded, Apple, is the most valuable company in the world, with a market value today of nearly $750bn. Now this is more than twice the size of the South African economy, and almost a third of the GDP of the whole of continental Africa! Apple is a phenomenal company, and will no doubt be amongst the top contenders for the first "trillion-dollar company" (expected within five years). Steve Jobs died in 2011 at age 56, after contracting a very aggressive form of cancer.  As one of the richest men in the world, he tried every possible cure that medical science had at the time, including experimental drugs; it all failed. A friend rec...

Love is the greatest refreshment in life.

Pablo Picasso (1881 – 1973), was a Spanish painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, stage designer, poet and playwright who spent most of his adult life in France. Regarded as one of the greatest and most influential artists of the 20th century, he is known for co-founding the Cubist movement, the invention of constructed sculpture, the co-invention of collage, and for the wide variety of styles that he helped develop and explore. Picasso, Henri Matisse and Marcel Duchamp are regarded as the three artists who most defined the revolutionary developments in the plastic arts in the opening decades of the 20th century, responsible for significant developments in painting, sculpture, printmaking and ceramics. Picasso demonstrated extraordinary artistic talent in his early years, painting in a naturalistic manner through his childhood and adolescence. During the first decade of the 20th century, his style changed as he experimented with different theories, t...
