The history of Herbert Macaulay

Image
During the 1920s, a period in Nigerian history associated with the beginning of political agitation for self-rule, Macaulay became a leading figure in the first generation of Nigerian Nationalists. In 1921, Macaulay passionately led protests in Lagos over water rates, land issues, and mishandling of the railway finances. In 1922, he helped a Lagos chief in his legal battle with the colonial government who had forcefully taken some of his land for government purposes. The highest court in England heard the case and returned the land to the chief. This victory inspired Macaulay to establish in 1923 Nigeria’s first political party, the Nigerian National Democratic Party whose members were the first to sit in the Legislative Council. The Nigerian National Democratic Party dominated Nigerian politics throughout the 1920s until the late 1930s. However in 1934, the NNDP lost its dominant position to newly organized student groups such as the Nigerian Youth Movement. In order to avoid the de...

God’s Businessman

The Entrepreneurs Toolkit on Friday The business world is cut-throat, and only those who are wise and shrewd can make it. What differentiates business people however, is the source of this wisdom and shrewdness. Worldly wisdom puts the individual at the center of it all—Godly wisdom on the other hand puts God and His mission at the forefront. Heaven backs businesses that seek to improve the livelihood of humanity and bring about advancement, progress and common good. Bob Dylan was recognized for his unique contribution to literature through music. His work blends folk traditions, protest themes, and storytelling in a way that influenced generations of artists....

Arsenal Can’t rely on young Alex Iwobi to win titles -Arsene Wenger

Image
Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger has emphasized that the club cannot depend heavily on young talents like Alex Iwobi if they want to compete for major trophies in England and Europe. At the time, the Nigerian international had been one of the bright spots in Arsenal’s squad, impressing fans with his creativity, energy, and attacking contributions. However, Wenger believed that while young players are important, they are not enough on their own to deliver titles. Wenger explained that football at the highest level requires a balanced squad made up of both youth and experienced players. According to him, young players can produce outstanding performances, but consistency and mental strength often come with age and experience. He noted that players between the ages of 23 and 30 form the core group needed for success, while younger talents like Iwobi should be seen as future stars rather than the foundation of a title-winning team. Wenger highlighted that Arsenal did have exciting young...
