Arsenal Can’t rely on young Alex Iwobi to win titles -Arsene Wenger

Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger has emphasized that the club cannot depend heavily on young talents like Alex Iwobi if they want to compete for major trophies in England and Europe.

At the time, the Nigerian international had been one of the bright spots in Arsenal’s squad, impressing fans with his creativity, energy, and attacking contributions. However, Wenger believed that while young players are important, they are not enough on their own to deliver titles.

Wenger explained that football at the highest level requires a balanced squad made up of both youth and experienced players.

According to him, young players can produce outstanding performances, but consistency and mental strength often come with age and experience.

He noted that players between the ages of 23 and 30 form the core group needed for success, while younger talents like Iwobi should be seen as future stars rather than the foundation of a title-winning team.

Wenger highlighted that Arsenal did have exciting young players such as Alex Iwobi and Héctor Bellerín, but insisted that relying solely on them would not be enough.

He pointed out that while such players can make an impact in individual matches, winning leagues and trophies requires a deeper level of experience, consistency, and mental maturity.

The Arsenal boss also suggested that young players should not be burdened with the expectation of carrying the team.

Instead, they should be given time to develop, learn, and grow into leadership roles within the squad.

Iwobi, who had recently broken into the first team, was seen as part of Arsenal’s long-term project rather than an immediate solution to their trophy ambitions.

Wenger’s comments reflected a broader philosophy in football: while youth brings energy and creativity, experience often determines success in critical moments.

He believed that teams aiming to win titles must strike the right balance between promising youngsters and seasoned professionals who understand the demands of big matches.
