Borussia Dortmund has continued its summer recruitment from the Premier League with the signing of midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka from Chelsea on a contract until 2030.
The 21-year-old England under-21 representative joins for a reported fee of 25 million euros ($29 million).
Chukwuemeka spent the second half of last season on loan at Dortmund, where he contributed to the club reaching the quarter-finals of the Club World Cup.
During his time at Dortmund, Chukwuemeka made 17 appearances across all competitions, scoring once while dealing with injury challenges.
In a statement, Chukwuemeka expressed his contentment, saying he is happy that Borussia Dortmund is now his footballing home and he intends to give his all to help the team achieve its goals.
Born in Austria, Chukwuemeka moved to England at a young age and progressed through Aston Villa’s youth academy before joining Chelsea in 2022.
Dortmund’s sporting director Lars Ricken stated that the club is pleased to sign Chukwuemeka, who adds to the quality and creativity of the attacking midfield.
This summer, Dortmund has also signed Jobe Bellingham from Sunderland and Yan Couto from Manchester City.
Jobe Bellingham’s brother, Jude, joined Dortmund from Birmingham City in 2020 at the age of 17 before transferring to Real Madrid three years later for an estimated fee of 100 million euros ($117 million).
According to a report from German tabloid Bild, two additional signings from the Premier League could be finalized before the transfer deadline on Monday, including Chelsea defender Aaron Anselmino and Wolves striker Fabio Silva.
There have also been rumors linking Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho, who has had two previous spells at Dortmund and recently completed a loan at Chelsea, with a potential return to the Westfalenstadion.
Additionally, Dortmund announced on Tuesday morning that they have extended coach Niko Kovac’s contract by one year, now lasting until 2027.
